Everything is Just a Little Too Connected For my Liking

So I did a Google search for a left-handed potato peeler. Okay maybe that wasn't it, but let's stipulate - it was a product. Not going to specify because this happens. All. The. Time. With. EVERYTHING. Still, a day later I got an email from Amazon giving me links to several left-handed peelers.

Then I'm on Instagram a day after that and what do I see? Ads for, you guessed it, left-handed potato peelers!

Is there anything we do online that isn't connected to everything else? Is our data mined by everyone for everything? It gets a bit creepy sometimes. Maybe I need to try a browser like Duck Duck Go and search for something obscure to see if the same thing happens. I'm beginning to think there is no way to get away from this crap.

So I am doing a test. I just did a search on Duck Duck Go. I am not even going to type the words here, of what I searched for. The only place I typed the words was in that browser. I will paste a pic because I don't think words can be mined from an image. But what do I know? (I only work in I.T.!)

If I don't get any emails or spontaneous ads for things related to this Duck Duck Go search, I may have to switch. Like most people, I don't have anything to hide - but it feels - icky - for lack of a better word, for the Internet to know everything I do online.

And for that matter, I think since I am working from home, I will unplug my pet-cam. Who knows who could be hacked into that?? This world just keeps getting weirder and weirder, I swear.

Did I just age myself - profoundly - by doing the search I did? Sigh-h-h...

Having the last word...

I cannot speak for anyone else, only myself. I don't go onto message boards and argue with people. But there are times I am on my computer - and it's always just one more thing. Wait, I need to look at this one thing. Need to check on that, etc. Because whatever it is can't wait till tomorrow, can it?

Wait. It IS tomorrow. Doggone it.

Just a question ~ input?

Tonight I downloaded Firefox - I had heard, oh - it doesn't matter why. The point is - I was making sure I had all my favorites and such, including this blog. I opened it and - wait - it looked weird! Using Internet Explorer - I have 3 columns. A sidebar on the right, one on the left, and the body of the blog is in the center. All my colorful widgets and blidgets and lists and pictures are on the sidebars. Except on Firefox. On Firefox I have the sidebar on the left, the middle body of the blog, and on the right where there should be a sidebar - well - there IS one I guess, but it's blank! All the 'stuff' I should be seeing there - is tacked onto the bottom of the LEFT sidebar! So - please please tell me, if you have stopped by, what do you see? I mean - I find it somewhat disturbing that for the last couple of months some people may have been seeing an empty spot that looks really stupid! So ... A on the left or B on the right?

A Learning Process

Today has certainly been a learning experience. I have been on the computer ALL day! My butt hurts and sometime today my VCR clock changed time - it apparently rejected the daylight savings time I had changed it to whenever that was. ? So.

I decided that of course it couldn't possibly be that people don't like my jewelry - how could THAT be? So I went on an email campaign, emailing scads of sellers from 'ecrafter' - and I don't think I got a positive response back from anyone. Basically I asked what they thought of the site - if they have had any luck there - etc. One lady, her name is Gloria, said "ecrafter sucks." So - I guess I see where we stand with that.

I decided to hunt around and see what I could elsewhere. I found a site that looked reasonable called artsefest.com. I emailed some sellers from that site - and got a mixed response. There was one that was fairly positive, but the other's seemed mixed. Seemed like people were saying that it was a good site but it was not their primary way of selling. There were a number of mentions of eBay and etsy.

After that I started looking at any website designers - or better yet (and less expensive) sites where you can basically build your own site, manage it, but you pay for the web-hosting and shopping cart stuff - oh - I am such a novice.

I really can't sit here and do this right now, I am somewhat unnerved by everything I learned today after putting links everywhere and working so hard to get my name out there. Now I'm tired - eye strain I'm sure. Going to move on on to something else I'm guessing, another way of selling my jewelry and right this minute - move on to something other than being online!

Have a great evening!
