Are you allowed to be an individual?

When you work in a small office room, you need to make what little space you have yours.  At least I do.  There are other positions in the company I work for where people have smaller spaces and are allowed a 12" x 12" space to "personalize" their desk.  Literally.  I don't know about you, but my personality doesn't fit into a 12" x 12" space.  Seriously.  So far my office roommate and I have managed to hide away where we aren't noticed or regulated much.  I mean, I imagine facilities would get upset if we burned incense and brought in a cook stove.  But we can hang what we what, we have a little fridge and a microwave, an electric tea kettle and a Christmas tree when it's the season.  And thank God we have a door we can close and we can even lock.

Where do you work?
And do you have a bit of freedom or is your workplace very regimented?

  1. Just a cube. No doors and because I am in what used to be the lobby and it is still where people enter I can't put up anything "personal" So it pretty much sucks.

  2. I work in an open area outside my boss' office. It is very large. So far I have hung a picture and put a few personal items on my desk.

I haven't had any restrictions put on what I decorate with, but you never know.

  3. I work from home in my TV room, so I'd say that I'm allowed to be an individual, except for the fact that my husband keeps taking down the posters I like and putting up new ones that I like less, so it's kind of like a totalitarian regime.

  5. We don't have any windows in this room - NOT COMPLAINING - but I like to put some "pretty" up. Old calendar pics suit me fine for that purpose. The fire hat? Cause we're always putting out fires.

  6. Great workspace, I see you like pictures even at work. I think I expected to find Maxine on the wall somewhere, cool. Wow, organized.

I'm the 12 by 12 work space person. Ya, when you scrapbook and on one sheet best of times it is 12 inches by 12 inches. I have freedom in my workshop and at times paper, tools, this and that are using the full of the room. Someday I'll venture in with my camera and show you but for now I don't want anyone to see my mess.

  7. I work in a smallish windowless room. I can't do much to personalise it though as it's a consultation room for me to see patients..
